Things to do in Wieliczka Salt Mine
The Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the most precious and most fascinating monuments of culture in Poland. Built in the town of Wieliczka, southern Poland, in the 13th century, it produced table salt throughout its existence until 2007. Though the commercial mining stopped in 1996 because of low salt prices and flooding, the mine remained one of the top attractions in Poland with over 1.2 million visitors a year! Tourists from all over Europe and the globe arrive to see for themselves the historic statues and mythical figures that have been carved out of the rock salt by the mine workers. Among other attractions which one can see on a tour of the mine is a real chapel, which is sometimes used for private events, including weddings! In 1978, the Wieliczka Salt Mine was officially listed as the UNESCO World Heritage SIte.

Reviews Wieliczka Salt Mine
“Schindler's museum has nothing g to do with Schindler at all, despite website selling it as such. Ghetto walk was very boring. Limited visible signs of the remains of the ghetto. Salt Mines however were fantastic. Driver friendly and informative and whilst delays in getting in, and very, very busy guide was informative. Mines are worth it but not the other two parts.”
“Enjoyed tour very good guides and great to do the experience. The company krakow booking were not so good. Cancelled our salt mine tour 1 day before, then next didn't show to pick us up for auschwitz tour. Weather was bad but other tours were getting picked up, we waited for an hour trying to contact them but getting no reply. Finally something around midday with tour being reorganised for next day, however no explanation for no pick up which was disappointing. Hopefully a one off ??”
“Sadly we had to cancel our place but the customer service was second to none. Especially since it was after the 72 hour deadline foe cancellations”
